Last week the Valentino Garavani virtual museum opened its doors to the virtual public. Like the Valentino style or not, the longevity and craftsmanship of the house cannot be denied. Having spent a few hours in there, I must say it is a must see and a fairly impressive app. The illustrations, photography and the couture captures the essence of the Valentino label perfectly. Below are a few items which took my breath away.

Following on from the last post on pleated skirts, sheer maxi dresses and skirts were the other big trend of 2010/11. Given that in it is still spring/summer in the southern hemisphere, we still have a few more months of ‘sheer’ madness!

I have always been drawn to things that are somewhat imperfect, especially in interiors or decor. Perhaps that's how I see myself, and the world in general. But I always saw a certain beauty in the imperfection..particularly objects which show signs of age and are reminiscent of a foregone era. And recently through Apartment Therapy, I found out that the Japanese have a word for it... WABI SABI! I thought the concept was beautiful...

It's dusk...the sun sets and the sky shows us its most delicious array of colours... a pink and orange concoction...soon enough the show is over and night has arrived once more.. and it is time for those elegant giants to shine.. the humble street lamps. We have some beautiful antique street lamps which illuminates a bridge near by. The hazy light they shine is both mysterious and romantic.. and they watch the street below each night like gentle guardians..

We, here in the southern hemisphere, have been waiting patiently for the winter to pass and those glorious sunny days to return.. and today there was finally some sun…lots of it!!
Not wanting to waste a minute of it in the fear that it may not be here for long, I jumped in the car and drove down to the coast. Mr Dylan, Ashcroft and some of my most treasured voices kept me company along the way…
With the windows down and the warmth of the sun on my face, time itself seemed to slow.. and life felt joyous!
When I stopped to feel the sand under my feet, and to smell the salty air, this is what my eyes beheld..
Sitting on the sand watching the vast blue body of water I couldn’t help but wander in..
Once in the water I was quickly reminded that it is indeed still winter..
Eventually I tore myself away from this utter bliss and started to drive back home.. But along the way I found some deliciously beautiful things to remind me of my little coastal break (see if you can tell what they are!)
One perfect day… *sigh*

What is it about Mason jars which instantly transfer one to a simpler life and time?? Apartment Therapy (AT) recently did a piece on them, and ever since I just can't wait to put them to use in our home. For those in the northern hemisphere here are some swoon-worthy display ideas below for your summer!
